Elements of the Belgian detachment, part of the NATO Response Force (NRF) activated by the North Atlantic Council of February 25, on Monday morning arrived in Romania, through the Nadlac border crossing point in the Arad County, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) informed.

According to the same source, the military convoy will join the French detachment of the NATO Response Force, already deployed at the 57th Air Base in Mihail Kogalniceanu.

Last week, French soldiers and technical personnel from the 27th Mountain Hunters Battalion from Annecy arrived in Romania. The French battalion was the first ground element of the NATO Response Force to be deployed in Romania following the decision of the North Atlantic Council of February 25.

NATO has activated defence plans to strengthen command and control of Allied forces and to facilitate the rapid response of military capabilities along the Allied borders.

A total of 500 French and 300 Belgian soldiers, part of the NATO Response Force ground component, will join the Romanian military in measures to strengthen the Alliance's Eastern Flank.
