Romanian authorities support evacuation of more than 1,000 Vietnamese citizens from Ukraine

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, had a telephone conversation on Monday with his Vietnamese counterpart, Bui Thanh Son, who thanked him for the efficient manner in which the Romanian authorities supported, up to now, the rapid and safe evacuation of more than 1,000 Vietnamese citizens from Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informs.

According to the same source, the Vietnamese Minister showed appreciation for the efforts made by Romania to manage the large flow of citizens of Ukraine and other states on the border with Romania, as well as for the full support given to them by our country. Minister Bogdan Aurescu assured his Vietnamese counterpart that Romania will continue to provide support for the repatriation of Vietnamese citizens through our country.

During the conversation, Minister Aurescu communicated the position of the Romanian side of strong condemnation of the aggression launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, reiterating that Moscow's actions "flagrantly" violate the provisions of international law, including the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, Agerpres.ro informs.

Minister Aurescu presented our Romania's efforts to provide humanitarian assistance, with an emphasis on the logistics centre organized by Romania for the collection and transfer of international humanitarian assistance donations to Ukraine.

The Vietnamese Minister also thanked Romania for the constant support provided by Romania to Vietnam in strengthening its relation with the EU, including by signing, during the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council, of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, which came into force on August 1, 2020. At the same time, the prospect of capitalizing on the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection/API Agreement was welcomed by the two high officials, which is being ratified by the Parliaments of the EU Member States, Romania being the second EU state to conclude national procedures in this case.

At the same time, Minister Bui Thanh Son reiterated his thanks to Romania for showing solidarity by donating a number of vaccines against COVID-19 to Vietnam last year.
