A military and religious ceremony was organized, on Wednesday, on the Day of anticommunist political prisoners in the 1944-1989 period, at the monument called "Wings" (Aripi) in Bucharest's Free Press Square.

The event, organized by the State secretariat for recognizing the merits of fighters against the communist regime installed in Romania between 1945-1989, started with the singing of the National Anthem, after which an Orthodox Christian service was rendered.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of the Presidential Administration, the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, the Government, the Ministry of National Defence, and the December 21, 1989 Association.

The day of anticommunist political prisoners in the 1944-1989 period, which is marked on March 9, was instituted by Parliament in 2011, when a legislative proposal belonging to Liberal senator Puiu Hasotti was adopted.
