Romania's Defence Minister Vasile Dincu on Wednesday welcomed Germany's ambassador in Bucharest Peer Gebauer to discuss the main coordinates of bilateral defence co-operation.

According to the Defence Ministry (MApN), co-operation between Romania and Germany inside NATO and the EU in the current security context was brought up, with emphasis on NATO's deterrence and defence posture, as well as co-operation under the European Union's defence initiatives.

The two officials exchanged views amid a sharp deterioration in the security situation in the region caused by the Russian Federation's invasion of Ukraine, with Dincu commending Germany for its commitment to the implementation of deterrence and defence measures designed for NATO's eastern flank, particularly the Black Sea area, highlighting the participation of the German Air Force in NATO's enhanced air policing missions conducted in Romania including in 2022, Agerpres.ro informs.

Dincu also emphasised the importance of continuing joint conduct of bilateral and multinational exercises, both in Romania and in Germany, as well as of increasing co-operation in the areas of military training and education, military medicine and cyber-defence.
