Nine Ukrainian men were discovered by border police on Romanian territory after crossing the Tisza River, Dan Buca, the spokesperson for the Maramures County Emergency Situations Committee (CJSU), informed on Thursday, Agerpres reports.

"Maramures border police found at the border of Maramures County with Ukraine (...) nine Ukrainian citizens, men aged between 18 and 59, who crossed from Ukraine to Romania, in the area of competence of the Romanian Border Police Sector. All Ukrainian citizens have requested a form of protection from the Romanian state, which is why specific procedures have been initiated in such cases," said Dan Buca.

Maramures firefighters also transported 11 people with special vehicles, accompanied by gendarmes, to the Maramures Regional Center for Accommodation and Asylum Seekers.

Another 55 people were transported, accompanied by gendarmes and volunteers, from the Sighetu Marmatiei Border Checkpoint to the Sighetu Marmatiei Railway Station, from where they left by train for Bucharest.

"There are currently no people accommodated in the camp operated by Maramures firefighters in Sighetu Marmatiei. 160 places are provided for accommodation, which can be supplemented depending on the evolution of the situation," said Dan Buca.
