Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and Chamber of Deputies Speaker Marcel Ciolacu declared on Tuesday, in southeastern Constanta, that the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council of the European Union will take place in June, and in this perspective all Romanian policy makers "speak the same language: Romania's place is in Schengen".
"Romania's place is in the Schengen area. We all know, all Romanians know that for many years we have met all the criteria. And frustration has built up not only among politicians, but even among Romanians. There will be the JHA Council in June and for the first time since the pact at Snagov (rd 40 km north of Bucharest), I believe all Romanian policy makers speak the same language: Romania's place is in the Schengen area and Romania must enter and join the Schengen area, [we are expecting - ed.n.] a decision to be made in June at the JHA Council," said Marcel Ciolacu, Agerpres.ro informs.
The Justice and Home Affairs Council of the European Union (EU) will take place in Luxembourg on June 7-8, 2021, to discuss issues such as the tackling of illegal content online, the protection and promotion of fundamental rights, the fight against crime and terrorism, the Schengen area, migration and asylum granting, informs the EU Council website.
