The government will analyze in Wednesday's meeting three pieces of legislation in the field of environmental protection, aimed at including fires under the category of criminal offenses, the afforestation of 55,000 hectares by 2026 and expanding air quality monitoring capacity, Agerpres reports.

The clarification was made by Prime Minister Nicoale Ciuca, at the beginning of the Government meeting.

"There are pieces of legislation that the Ministry of Environment has submitted for analysis and approval. The first of them refers to measures so that we can fight repeated episodes of uncontrolled fires, including in the vicinity of the Capital, and these must be stopped. Thus, by emergency ordinance, we include these facts under the category of criminal offenses. The second concerns an afforestation campaign. We are talking about the afforestation of 25,000 hectares by the end of 2023 and in the period 2024 - 2026 we approve the afforestation of 30,000 hectares," said the head of the Executive.

The third normative act aims at measures for the improvement of air quality surveillance, by extending the monitoring capacity.
