The Senate chairman, Florin Citu, says that there is a need for a "total blockade" against Russia so that this "terrible war" cannot occur in other countries.

"Only if we have a total blockade against Russia and we manage to isolate Russia economically, can we ensure that what Russia did in Ukraine, this unprovoked aggression, this terrible war, to not happen in other countries as well. In the end we must think about the fact that this is not about our comfort of today, but rather about our safety in the future and that is why we need these sanctions, of making sure that Romania will not be attacked in the future," Citu specified on Tuesday, when asked about the impact for Romania on applying new sanctions against Russia.

He added that these sanctions must be applied in a context in which measures can be taken so that this blockade impact can be countered.

"Inflation is at over 10% and the economy is slowing down without these sanctions. I cannot figure out if the sanctions will have a negative impact in the long term, in the short term, they must be taken in a context in which you can have measures through which you can counter the impact of these sanctions," Citu concluded.
