The Arad border police have caught 56 migrants hidden in two lorries loaded with auto parts and electrical components who tried to illegally cross the border into Hungary.

The migrants are from Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Pakistan and Egypt.

On Wednesday night at the Nadlac II Border Crossing Point, a lorry driven by a Romanian was checked, shipping electrical components for a French commercial company.

"After a thorough check of the vehicle, 48 foreign citizens were discovered hidden among the transported goods. The persons were picked up and moved away for investigations, which led the border police to establish that they are citizens from Bangladesh, India, Egypt and Pakistan having entered Romania legally but intending to cross the state border illegally with the aim of reaching Western European countries," the Arad Border Police informed on Thursday.

Later, at the Varsand Border Crossing, eight more migrants were discovered, hidden in a lorry loaded with auto parts, driven by a Romanian who was shipping the goods to Germany. The illegal migrants are from India and Pakistan, most of them asylum seekers in Romania who intended to illegally arrive in the Schengen Area, told Agerpres.

The border police say that trained dogs were also used in the operations with the aim of strengthening control and surveillance on the border with Hungary to prevent and combat illegal migration.
