There were more than 90,000 calls to the 119 hotline for abused, neglected or exploited children in the first 11 months since the opening of the service, and thousands of children were saved from crisis situations, state counselor and humanitarian assistance strategic coordinator with the Department for Community Social Responsibility and Vulnerable Groups Madalina Turza declared on Monday, as she took stock of the one-year implementation of the approximately 6 million euro National Program "Caring for Children" initiated in 2021 for a period of two years.

Another concrete result of the program, added the official, is the "RoALERT - missing child" notification service.

"This message is sent to the citizens in the areas where a child is supposed to have gone missing or in the areas we reckon they are headed to. The first alert notice regarding the disappearance of a child was sent out a week ago and the child was subsequently found," Turza added, Agerpres informs.

She explained that under this program, the National Police was equipped with an advanced and complete computer forensics system for identifying pedophiles and sexual abusers, so that police are able to track in real time online pedophiles, sexual abusers and predators who seek out children or worse, exploit them in the online environment.

Madalina Turza also mentioned the opening, up until now, of 23 hearing rooms for child victims of crimes within 19 County Police Inspectorates, adding that by the end of the year there will be at least one such juvenile hearing room in every county in Romania.
