The aluminum producer Alro has been selected, following an engaging selection process organized by the Oltenia Energy Complex, to jointly build the natural gas power plant at Isalnita, with a capacity of 850 MW, told Agerpres.

Alro's participation will account for 40.1pct of the share capital of the joint venture (SPV) established for the implementation of the Isalnita project.

According to a press release of the power plant, the association is to be approved by the corporate bodies of the two companies.

"In the final stage, nine companies participated, confirming the increased interest in investments in the field of energy sources with a low impact on the environment," the cited source emphasizes.

The Isalnita project is part of the Restructuring Plan of CE Oltenia, which was approved by the European Commission in January 2022 and which provides, among other things, the building of two gas plants and eight photovoltaic parks in order to diversify the energy mix and transition to sources of less polluting energy, as well as restoring the viability of the company.

The Oltenia Energy Complex is the largest coal-based energy producer in Romania, which owns 9 energy groups, with an installed capacity of 2,595 MW.

The main shareholders of CE Oltenia are the Ministry of Energy (77%) and Fondul Proprietatea (21.5%).
