Boxing: Florin Ionita secures medal at the World Youth Boxing Championships in Spain

Romanian boxer Florin Ionita secured a medal at the World Youth Boxing Championships in the Spanish town of La Nucia, after qualifying, on Monday, for the semifinals of the 92 kg category, told Agerpres.

Ionita, who is an European youth vice-champion, defeated Armenian Avetik Hovakimian in the quarter-finals, on points (5-0), and he will face British Damar Thomas in the semifinals.

Two representatives of our country lost on Monday in the quarterfinals.

Alina Alexandra Cretu lost on points (0-5) to the representative of India, Ravina Ravina, in the 63 kg category.

Maria Gheorghita Cimpoeru was defeated by technical KO in the first round by Irish Dearbhla Tinnelly, in the 81 kg category.

Romania participates with 14 boxers in the World Youth Championships in Spain (November 15-26), 6 for men and 8 for women.

Apart from Florin Ionita, only Maria Livia Botica remains in the competition, in the +81 kg category, where she will meet Kirti Kirti (India) in the quarterfinals.
