Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca conveyed a message on Friday on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the beginning of the Romanian Revolution, in which he said that both the heroes and martyrs of December 1989, as well as all the dissidents and the victims of the communist regime are owed not only the valorization of their ultimate sacrifice by defending the ideals they believed in with all their might, but also justice, "which has been long in coming".

"Today's democratic Romania would not have been possible without the supreme sacrifice of December 1989, when Romanians proved that the desire to be free cannot be stopped by bullets or tanks. Timisoara was the first city freed from communist terror, and the courage of the people of Timisoara inspired and mobilized the Romanians from the other cities burdened by the dictatorship. After almost half a century, the illegitimate and criminal communist regime was defeated, and democratic values and principles were restored, but the price paid was a huge one," Ciuca emphasized .

The head of the Executive added that a desire of the present generations is to bring to justice those responsible for the crimes and abuses of the communist regime.

At the same time, he pointed out the importance that must be given to education in the spirit of truth and fundamental values among young people.

"We have the duty to make sure that we pass on to future generations the essence of this fight against communism. Young people must know the truth, know what the dark period of totalitarianism entailed and understand that only democracy, the rule of law, European values represent the guarantee of a stable future. Let them be aware that dictatorship can never be a solution, regardless of the crises that society is going through. Education in the spirit of truth and fundamental values is the key to strengthening our democratic values," Nicolae Ciuca also transmitted.AGERPRES
