Bulgarian citizen investigated over attempt to illegally introduce pyrotechnic articles in Romania

A Bulgarian citizen, aged 39, is currently being investigated over an attempt to smuggle 22,400 boxes of firecrackers, fireworks and rockets with a total weight of approximately two tonnes in Romania, through the Giurgiu border crossing point, told Agerpres.

"The Giurgiu border police and the policemen from the Weapons, Explosives and Hazardous Substance Department of the Giurgiu Police Inspectorate discovered that a 39-year-old Bulgarian citizen, who was driving a van and presented himself for the border control, on the way to enter the country, was carrying 22,400 boxes of firecrackers, fireworks and rockets with a total weight of approximately 1.8 tonnes for which he had no cross-border transport authorization," it is stated in a press release issued on Tuesday by the Giurgiu Territorial Inspectorate of the Police.

The goods, estimated at a value of approximately 400,000 RON, were seizedduring the investigations by the police officers from the Giurgiu County Police Inspectorate.
