EduMin Deca: We have doubled number of scholarships for foreign citizens

Education Minister Ligia Deca says that the number of scholarships for citizens from abroad has doubled, and for the academic year 2023 - 2024, 500 scholarships will be offered within the annual scholarship programme granted by the Romanian state to citizens from non-EU countries, told Agerpres.

"For the academic year 2023-2024, 500 scholarships will be offered within the annual scholarship programme granted by the Romanian state to citizens from non-EU countries. I am very happy that the bachelor and master scholarship recipients will study only in Romanian, thus promoting the language and culture of our country. The only exception will be doctoral students, who can choose to study in Romanian or in a foreign language determined by the doctoral school," the minister wrote on Facebook.

Deca says that the scholarship students, who come from more than 100 countries, will study in major Romanian cities, the scholarships being provided from the budget of the Ministry of Education, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the minister, the candidates were able to apply much easier to this programme thanks to the online platform StudyinRomania, developed by the Executive Unit for Financing Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation (UEFISCDI).

"Equally gratifying is the fact that the number of applications received this year is more than 10% higher than in previous editions. As I have already mentioned, internationalisation in higher education is one of the priorities of my mandate, and doubling the number of scholarships for this programme is just the beginning," the minister also wrote.
