Romanian tennis player Irina Fetecau qualified, on Wednesday, for the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 tournament in Barranquilla (Colombia), which has a total prize pool of 115,000 US dollars, after defeating Maria Herazo Gonzalez (Colombia) 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, told Agerpres.
Fetecau (27 years old, WTA's 846), who returned to the circuit in April, after more than one year of absence, won after two hours and 19 minutes of playing.
The Romanian has now 2-1 in direct matches against Herazo Gonzalez (26 years old, WTA's 397), who committed 8 double faults in Wednesday's match.
In the first round, Irina Fetecau benefited from the abandonment of the player Raluka Serban, who represents Cyprus, at the score of 1-6, 6-4, 4-1.
Irina Fetecau won a cheque of 3,475 dollars and 29 WTA points, and in the quarterfinals she will meet, for the first time, French player Fiona Ferro (26 years old, WTA's 252).
