Imports via Sighetu Marmatiei customs, up 28pct, Ukraine, main supplier

The value of goods imported and transited through the Sighetu Marmatiei customs at the Romanian-Ukrainian border posted an increase by 28% in H1 2023, according to the local customs office.

Ukraine was the main supplier, especially of raw and processed material for the wood industry, agerpres reports.

In H1 2023, 757 customs declarations were submitted, accepted and processed at the Sighetu Marmatiei customs office, of which 261 were import declarations, 25 declarations for goods placed under active processing, 229 export declarations and 242 export declarations processed at the customs office outside the customs area of the European Union.

The value of imported goods in H1 2023 was RON 45,325,930, and of exported goods RON 57,340,625. Compared with H1 2022, the H1 2023 volume of commercial exchanges with third countries posted an increase by 28% in imports and an increase by only 4% in exports.

Most of the imports came from Ukraine (beech semi-finished products, lumber, oak slats, cardboard items, wood panels, chair parts, wood pellets, birch plywood), the UK (velvet, plush, knitted fabrics), Kazakhstan (birch plywood), Turkey (velvet, plush and other fabrics), Serbia (PVC granules, wood panels) and China (upholstery fabric, artificial flowers, automotive parts and accessories) , as well as from Moldova (furniture hardware).

The main export destination countries were the UK (furniture covers, wooden panels and tops, parquet, wooden chairs, wooden items), Turkey (chairs and wooden items), Ukraine (oak timber, electrical wiring, screws), Israel (parquet), the US (sessile oak panels) and Moldova (wooden furniture).
