Romania is dispatching to Greece another specialist module for extinguishing forest fires to carry out missions to locate and extinguish fires that endanger the lives of communities and their property, Romania's General Emergency Management Inspectorate (IGSU) reported on Monday, told Agerpres.

According to IGSU, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu convened the National Emergency Management Committee on Monday to approve the dispatch of the special response module from Romania to help extinguish forest fires in Greece.

On Monday, 56 firefighters, with ten fire trucks (8 of 3,000 l, 2 of 10,000 l), a first response and command vehicle and a bus started travelling by land from the headquarters of the USISU-Ciolpani Special Emergency Management Response Unit to the destination Alexandroupolis - Feres. The duration of the mission is4 - 10 days.

The decision was approved by the National Emergency Management Council (CNSU) taking into account a request from Greece submitted on Sunday via the European Civil Protection Mechanism for the provision of international assistance in the context of forest fires in Greece with the prior information of the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis.

The intention of support from Romania was submitted on Sunday to the Emergency Response Coordination Centre of the European Commission (ERCC), through CECIS, by the Emergency Management Department via the Emergency Department General Inspectorate in its capacity as the national contact point.
