Romanian military firefighters join in extinguishing forest fire in France

Romanian military firefighters, pre-positioned in France, are currently acting to extinguish a forest fire that broke out in the French town of Chanousse, approximately 200 km away from the base of operations, told Agerpres.

Forty Romanian military firefighters are participating in the mission under the coordination of a French liaison officer.

"Our colleagues are acting together with their French counterparts to locate and contain the flames that threaten the local communities, using four fire engines and two first response and command vehicles," Romania's General Emergency Management Inspectorate (IGSU) reported on Monday.

The missions consist in containing the spread of the fire towards inhabited areas, as well as keeping a line of protection between the fire and the unaffected area.

At the same time, in order to make the response mission more efficient, firefighting aircraft are also assigned to the action to perform aerial reconnaissance and optimal coverage of the affected areas.
