Romania's Chirila advances first to World Championships C1M 500m race

Romanian rower Catalin Chirila on Friday was first to progress to the final of the C1M 500m event at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Duisburg, Germany, clocking in at 1:46.861, told Agerpres.

Chirila, a world vice-champion in this non-Olympic event, won the first semi-final, followed by German Conrad Schneider at 01:47.994.

The final is scheduled for today.

Chirila was second to advance to the C1M 1000m final, which takes place on Saturday. The competition counts for qualification to the 2024 Olympic Games, with the first six in the final getting each a berth. Chirila is the reigning world champion in this event.
