Code Orange weather warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms in eastern half of Romania

The National Weather Administration (ANM) has issued a Code Orange weather warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms for the eastern half of Romania and a Code Yellow for rainfall for almost the rest of the country, including the capital, valid throughout Wednesday.

According to ANM, between 12:00 and 23:00, in the north and east of Muntenia, eastern Transilvania and in Moldavia, there will be periods of marked atmospheric instability. There will be wind intensities (gusts generally 70 - 80 km/h), in small areas strong thunderstorms, heavy downpours, thunderstorms and hail.

In short intervals (1-3 hours) or by accumulation, the rainfall will be 35 - 40 l/sqm and, isolated, over 50 - 60 l/sqm.

The counties that will fall under Code Orange are Suceava, Botosani, Harghita, Covasna, Neamt, Iasi, Bacau, Vaslui, Vrancea, Prahova, Dambovita (north), Brasov (south-east), Buzau, Galati, Brăila, Ialomita and Calarasi.

Also, until 2:00 on Thursday, there will be periods of atmospheric instability in most of the country. There will be showers, thunders, short-lived wind intensities (gusts of 55 - 65 km/h) and isolated thunderstorms and hail. In short intervals or by accumulation, the rainfall will be 25 - 30 l/sqm and isolatedly over 40 l/sqm.

The counties under Code Yellow are Satu Mare, Maramures, Bihor, Salaj, Cluj, Bistrita Nasaud, Mures, Alba, Sibiu, Brasov, Hunedoara, Caras-Severin, Arad (partially), Mehedinti, Gorj, Valcea, Arges, Dambovita, Tulcea (western half), Constanta (western half) and Bucharest.
