Culture Minister Turcan: Nicolae Grigorescu's painting Breton girl working by the window returns to Romania

Nicolae Grigorescu's panting "Breton girl working (by the window)," returns to Romania, informs the Minister of Culture, Raluca Turcan, who deemed the event a "success" by which the institution she leads accomplishes its "mission" to protect and promote the mobile national cultural heritage, told Agerpres.

"For the first time after more than 15 years, by exercising its right of preemption, the Ministry of Culture purchased a special work of art, which is part of a series of national cultural heritage works that were returned in nature to their lawful owners, a couple of years ago, from the Romanian National Art Museum. The painting was made in oil on wood and is an important piece from the work of painter Nicolae Grigorescu, dated in his French period (1876-1886), Turcan said on Facebook.

She said that, after 40 years in the possession of the National Art Museum and more years during which it was part of a private collection after being returned to the former owners as the result of the fall of the communist regime, the painting can be again admired by all art lovers at the museum.
