Bucharest deputy mayor Bujduveanu proposes referendum on electric scooters, simultaneously with European Parliament elections

The deputy mayor of Bucharest Stelian Bujduveanu proposes holding a referendum, together with the European Parliament elections, in which the citizens of Bucharest can specify whether or not they want self-service electric scooters on the streets of the city, told Agerpres.

"The citizens of Bucharest must decide: With or without electric scooters on the streets of the capital! As deputy mayor general and councilor of the National Liberal Party, I drafted the Regulation for the use of scooters a year ago. The document followed all the legal steps, including the debate public, having been proposed and removed three times from the agenda of the General Council. I have thus decided that Bucharest cannot wait any longer. We are returning to the best form of democracy and I am asking the citizens of Bucharest directly, through a referendum, if they want or not self-service electric scooters on the city streets", the deputy mayor wrote on Facebook.

He proposes that the referendum take place at the same time as the European Parliament elections, on Sunday, June 9, 2024, in order to have the lowest possible costs.

Bujduveanu invites the general councilors, regardless of political affiliation, "to sign and support" this initiative.
