Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu announced that the Government is discussing on Friday the impact by the war in Ukraine on Romania's state budget, in order to later transmit the data to Brussels.

"We need to discuss today, with clear figures, which we already have, about the impact that the war in Ukraine caused on the state budget. We have already analyzed this aspect in Brussels, last week, and the European officials understand Romania's situation and are waiting for us to send them updated figures in this regard," the prime minister said, at the beginning of the Government meeting, agerpres reports.

On 1 September, Marcel Ciolacu declared, after the meetings in Brussels with the European leaders, that there is flexibility regarding the presentation of a new plan regarding Romania's budget deficit, and a decision will be made by the end of the year.

"It is obvious that, following Romania's effort to support Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, and it is obvious, as a border country, we have the longest border with Ukraine, a country in a totally unfair armed conflict with Russia, that we have negative influences, from insurance, from interest for loans, because we are a country with a higher risk, compared to Austria, for example, which is further away from the conflict with Ukraine," said Ciolacu, when asked if the European Commission accepts the increase in the budget deficit of Romania.
