PM Ciolacu: Firefighters often respond to desperate situations, solving the problem

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday, September 13, Romanian Firefighters Day, that firefighters often respond to desperate situations, solving problems, but that such responses do not make headlines, told Agerpres.

The statement was made at the opening of a new fire department at the Persani Emergency Management Inspectorate in Bucharest District 4.

"Many times you respond to desperate situations, solving the problem. You should know that those are no news, they don't make it to television. The news is when, also in extreme situations, you respond to contain things and avoid more human casualties. What I mean here is the incident in Crevedia. And the responses, year after year already, in Greece, where other presidents, other prime ministers send us letters or call us and thank us for your activity . It is an honour for me to be here today. It is the first fire department built, I think, in the last 40 years, and not only in Bucharest, but in Romania," said the prime minister.

He added that it is the first time that such a department has an educational component. Young people and children will be able to come here to learn about the correct reaction in emergency management. "Prevention and education save human lives," said Ciolacu.

He added that the fire department will serve the south of Bucharest and a part of Ilfov County shortening response times.
