Romania is participating, between September 18 and 22, in the European civil protection exercise "EU ModEx 2023 - Canakkale" which is taking place in northwestern Turkey.

Romania is present at this exercise with a delegation made up of 43 experts from the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU), the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), doctors and assistants from the UPU - SMURD Bucharest, Iasi, Constanta, Brasov and the Grigore Alexandrescu Children's Emergency Clinical Hospital in Bucharest, the DSU's social media page reads.

According to the source, this exercise offers an excellent opportunity to test Romania's interoperability and ability to work together with other states in case of major emergency situations. Also, Romania will be able to familiarize itself with the mechanisms and requirements of the European Civil Protection Reserve within the EU.

The EMT1 Romania teams are present at the exercise, as well as counterparts from Portugal, Turkey, Germany, Estonia, Poland, Azerbaijan, Finland, representatives of the World Health Organization, a team from the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination System (UNDAC), in total over 250 experts.

"By actively participating in such events, Romania demonstrates its commitment to the development of civil protection capacities and international cooperation for the management of emergency situations, thus strengthening solidarity and security at the European level," DSU highlights.
