Romania's borders are "safer than ever," despite the war in the neighbourhood and the multiple crises, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana said on Wednesday in a message on Romanian Army Day.

"Today, on October 25, Romanian Army Day, I salute with gratitude, respect and pride all those who serve under the tricolour flag, defending the country and the Romanian nation. The significance of this day for the entire Nation is to be found in the patriotism and sacrifice of the Romanian soldiers of today and yesterday. I am glad that this year I am celebrating the Romanian Army Day together with our allies and partners at the NATO headquarters in Brussels. Despite the war at our borders, the multiple crises that are shaking the whole world, Romanians, the entire territory of the Romanian State, are safer today than ever before in the history of our Nation, as members of the North-Atlantic Alliance," underlined Geoana.

He wished all military and civilians serving in the Romanian Army, men and women in uniform, reservists, veterans, good health and strength to work.

"Many happy returns, Romanian Army! Many happy returns, Romania!," Mircea Geoana said.
