Tennis: Irina Bara, Anca Todoni and Cristina Dinu qualify for round of 16 in Heraklion

Romanian tennis players Irina Bara, Anca Todoni and Cristina Dinu qualified on Wednesday for the round of 16 of the ITF tournament in Heraklion (Crete), with total prize money of USD 40,000, while five other Romanians lost in the opening round, told Agerpres.

Irina Bara (28, WTA's 190th), the fifth seed, benefited from the withdrawal of Ukrainian Anastasia Konstantinovna Soboleva (19, WTA's 316th), 3-6, 6-1, 1-0, after one hour and 38 minutes.

Bara, who won the W25 tournament in Heraklion over the weekend, will play in the round of 16 against Greek Eleni Christofi (25, WTA's 703rd).

Anca Alexia Todoni (19, WTA's 259th) overcame Andreea Mitu (32, WTA's 280th) 6-2, 7-6 (8/6) after more than two hours of play (2 h 04 min).

Todoni will play in the second round against Russian Ekaterina Makarova (27, WTA's 183rd), the third seeded, who won 6-1, 6-1 against Romanian Maria Sara Popa (18, WTA's 590th), a qualifier.

Cristina Dinu (30, WTA's 307th) defeated Oana Gavrila (25, WTA's 577th), a qualifier, 6-1, 6-1 after one hour and 24 minutes.

Dinu will meet Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic (32, WTA's 226th), seeded seventh.

Alexandra Cadantu-Ignatik (33, WTA's 287th) dropped the match at 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 2-0, to North-Macedonian Lina Gjorcheska (29, WTA's 187th).

Ilinca Dalina Amariei (21, WTA's 364th) also retired in the first round, 6-4, 3-0, in favour of German player Anna Gabric (25, WTA's 462nd).
