The Chamber of Deputies rejected, on Tuesday, the simple motion against the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR), Florin Barbu, initiated by Save Romania Union (USR) deputies and entitled "Odes for Ceausescu do not save Romanian agriculture".

There were 77 "for" votes, 149 "against" votes, 7 abstentions, and 10 deputies did not vote.

The USR deputies requested, in the simple motion, that prime minister Marcel Ciolacu dismiss the minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, arguing that he should leave the position he holds "for someone more skilled and less nostalgic for communism".

The signatories of the motion consider that Florin Barbu treats the farmers with contempt and defies the Romanians who pay increased prices daily, in the market and in the shops.

According to the text of the motion, products with capped prices have disappeared from the shelf or have been made more expensive by reducing the weight per product, and the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announces that food prices continue to rise.

The initiators claimed that, instead, the Minister of Agriculture promoted a law by which reeds from the Danube Delta will be used by companies close to "the local PSD baron Paul Stanescu".

The motion was debated on Monday by the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies.
