Foreign Ministry condemns terrorist attack in Istanbul

The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) firmly condemns the terrorist attack which took place on Tuesday in the Sultanahmet historic district of Istanbul, killing several people and leaving others injured, and reiterates Romania's solidarity with the Turkish people. 

In a release sent to STIRIPESURSE, MAE sends condolences to the victims' families and voices hope that those injured in the explosion will have a fast recovery. 

"During these difficult times, MAE sends sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this atrocious act, as well as hope for a fast recovery of the persons injured in the explosion. At the same time, in these deeply sad moments, the Foreign Affairs Minister reiterates solidarity with the Turkish people, as well as support for the Turkish authorities' efforts in combating all forms of terrorism. Likewise, the Foreign Affairs Ministry voices its entire compassion to the other states whose citizens have fallen victims in this attack," the release points out. 

Ten died and another 15 were injured in the powerful explosion occurred on Tuesday in the Sultanahmet Square, Reuters informs, quoting the governor of Istanbul. 

The witnesses at the scene spoke of a powerful explosion, which was also heard in the neighboring districts. 

The suicide attack author was identified as being a Syrian born in 1998, as announced by the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, quoted by AFP and Reuters.
