Public Prosecution Office 2015 report: 644,391 cases solved, 58,909 persons indicted

Prosecutors from all over the country solved 644,391 cases in 2015, down 4.4 percent from 2014, and sent to court 58,909 individuals and 319 legal entities in 42,749 indictment acts and guilt admittance agreements, informs the report of the Public Prosecution Office published on the institution's website.

The prosecutors' workload last year has been of 1,832,463 cases, down 2.5 percent from 2014. The breakdown of the 58,909 persons indicted by the prosecution bodies in charge is as follows: the Directorate for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) - 3,830; the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) - 1,172; military prosecution offices - 180; the Supreme Court's Prosecution Section - 214, while the rest were sent to court in cases built by the local prosecution offices. Of all the persons indicted, 53,793 are men (91.3 percent), 5,116 are women (8.7 percent) and 3,548 are minors (6 percent).

According to the activity report, the indictment average was 297 per 100,000 population, up from 252 per 100,000 in 2014. The counties to register higher figures than the national average are Brasov (298), Cluj (311), Bacau (378) and Constanta (380), while the counties with indictment figures below average are Prahova (215), Iasi (225) and Bucharest (239).
