Interior Ministry (MAI) Secretary of State Raed Arafat, in charge with emergency interventions, on Monday evening told Antena 3 private television broadcaster that in case someone told him that he is to blame and must leave office to save the system, then he would make this gesture to salvage what has been achieved in the emergency care system so far.

"I was talking to someone these days and I said: if the problem is Dr Arafat and not the system, someone would better be telling me to leave and the system to stay. I prefer that and someone to take over the job to move [the system] further, if there is anyone who wants to take over and move further and consolidate this construction. I have no problem with it whatsoever. If the problem is that Dr Arafat and the system are of no use to us, then Dr Arafat can leave, but it doesn't mean he will be quiet, I shall speak up when I see the system crumbling. If Dr Arafat is wanted to stay and do something else, then we must discuss moving forward with what we have started; not destroying, but improving, and, we all agree, strengthening the system," Arafat said.
