Romanian boxers achieved a series of victories in the first rounds of the European Under-23 Boxing Championships in Budapest.
Of the 13 Romanian athletes, only Maria Georgia Cimpoieru was eliminated from the competition, by Hungarian Nora Komjathi, who clearly won on points (5-0), in the first round in the 70 kg category, agerpres reports.
Five Romanians have already reached the men's quarterfinals, being just one step away from securing a medal.
In the 55 kg category, Adrian Florin Preda defeated Slovakian Filip Horvath in the first round (5-0), and on Wednesday he will box in the quarterfinals with Englishman Abdul-Rahman Burton.
In the 60 kg category, Andrei Valentin Gavae won in the first round against Georgian Saba Eremeişvili (5-0 on points), and in the round of 16 he prevailed against Finnish Kunsta Junttila (5-0), his opponent on Tuesday, in the quarterfinals, being Ukrainian Rasul Guliev.
Arun Nicu Tudoroiu will box in the 65 kg category quarterfinals with Slovakian Juraj Bona on Wednesday, after clearly defeating Lithuanian Mykolas Brokas on points (5-0) in the first round and Georgian Levan Demurovi in the round of 16.
In the 70 kg category, Daniel-Raj Stoican won over Scot Sonny Kerr by technical knockout in the third round, and on Tuesday he will face Austrian Emin Yildiz in the round of 16.
Marian Alexandru Buleu won by technical knockout in the first round in the 75 kg category against the Finnish Unto Jansson, and on Tuesday, in the quarterfinals, he will meet the Polish Mateusz Urban.
Rares Bogdan Stoiculescu will debut on Tuesday in the 80 kg category, going to box in the round of 16 with Belgian Noa Hadjit.
In the 90 kg category, Răzvan Adrian Ciobanu defeated Finnish Hadi Taslim (5-0) on points, and on Tuesday, in the quarterfinals, he will meet Italian Dean Nwokedi Chime in the ring.
Florin Ionita will fight in the first round in the +90 kg category with the Czech Filip Koci, a match scheduled for Tuesday.
In the women's 51 kg category, Ramona Mihaela Manea will meet English boxer Kelsey Carol Oakley in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
In the 57 kg category, Miria-Daiana Andor will box in the first round against Hungarian Rebeka Dobos, a match also scheduled for Tuesday.
Crinuţa Andra Sebe won by disqualification of Poland's Kinga Krowka in the second round of the first round match in the 65 kg category, and on Tuesday she will box in the quarterfinals against Turkey's Egrice Sevgi.
Amalia Maria Nita will also fight in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, in the 75 kg category, also against a representative of Turkey, Husna Babat Esmaul.
