All travellers who do not require a visa and intend to visit or transit the United Kingdom will need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) as of 25 February 2026, the British Embassy Bucharest announced on Facebook on Wednesday.
The ETA is obtained quickly and easily online or by using the official UK ETA app. The authorisation must be obtained before travelling, agerpres reports.
The current cost of the ETA is 16 pounds and it allows multiple journeys to the United Kingdom for stays of up to six consecutive months over a period of two years or until the holder's passport expires, whichever comes first.
The UK Embassy recommends that those planning a trip apply in good time, checking the official information on the gov.uk/eta website so they can be sure they meet all the necessary requirements before departure.
