Romania and the United Kingdom aim to deepen cooperation in areas such as information technology, data centres and cyber infrastructure, and an event dedicated to these sectors will be held on 12 November at the Consulate General of Romania in Birmingham, the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB) announced on Wednesday.
CCIB president Iuliu Stocklosa met with Mihaela Savu, Romania's consul general in Birmingham, for talks focused on identifying new opportunities to strengthen economic and trade relations between Romania and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The meeting was also attended by CCIB executive director Gabriela Iftene and representatives of the Chamber's International Relations Department.
According to CCIB, both sides underlined the importance of consolidating institutional dialogue and direct cooperation between Romanian and British business communities, noting that Birmingham and the West Midlands region are among the UK's main economic, technological and investment hubs.
In this context, the role of CCIB's Representation Office in London, led by Liviu Manole, was highlighted as a key instrument for connecting Romanian companies with British partners. The office supports business matchmaking, facilitates information exchange on commercial and investment opportunities and helps initiate direct contacts between companies in both countries.
Discussions focused particularly on sectors with high bilateral cooperation potential IT, data centres and cyber infrastructure. Participants explored ways to stimulate contacts between specialised companies on both markets, including through dedicated business events.
Mihaela Savu announced that on 12 November 2026, the Consulate General in Birmingham will host an event bringing together representatives of relevant institutions, stakeholders and Romanian and British companies active in the targeted sectors. The event aims to provide a concrete platform for dialogue, experience-sharing and identification of joint projects.
The possibility of organising a British delegation to Romania in spring 2027, led by Birmingham's Lord Mayor Zaker Choudhry, was also discussed. Such a visit could help deepen economic and institutional ties and offer Birmingham's business community a direct view of opportunities on the Romanian market.
CCIB representatives welcomed Consul General Mihaela Savu's openness to developing concrete initiatives that support the business community and strengthen links between Romanian and British economic environments.
