Code Orange, Yellow for heat in Capital and 29 counties, Code Yellow for storms in 6 counties

The National Weather Administration (ANM) has extended for Tuesday the Code Orange for heatwave and severe thermal discomfort for the Capital and the counties located in the east and southeast of Romania, and has issued a Code Yellow for other counties in the northwest, south, east and locally in the centre.

At the same time, on the first part of Tuesday, there will be a Code Yellow for atmospheric instability in the southwest of the country.

According to ANM, on Tuesday, in the south and east of Muntenia, in most of Moldavia and in the mainland of Constanta county, maximum temperatures will reach 37-39 degrees, and minimum temperatures will range between 18 and 22 degrees, so that the thermal discomfort will be accentuated. The temperature-humidity index will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.

The counties that will be under Code Orange for heatwave are Botosani, Iasi, Vaslui, Bacau (eastern part), Vrancea (eastern part), Galati, Buzau (mostly), Braila, Ialomita, Calarasi, Giurgiu, Teleorman, Constanta (western half) and Bucharest.

Also on Tuesday, the heat wave will persist in the northwest, south, east and locally in the centre of the country. There will be a Code Yellow for heat in northern Crisana, western Maramures, Transilvania and Moldavia, most of Oltenia, northern Muntenia and locally in Dobrogea. Thermal discomfort will be high, and the temperature-humidity index will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Maximum temperatures will range from 33 to 36 degrees, and minimum temperatures from 17 to 21 degrees.

The counties that will be under the Yellow Code for heat are Suceava, Neamt, Bacau (western part), Vrancea (western part), Buzau (partially), Constanta (eastern half), Tulcea, Prahova, Dambovita, Arges, Olt, Dolj, Valcea, Gorj, Sibiu, Alba, Cluj, Salaj, Bihor and Satu Mare.

Also, on Tuesday, between 2:00 and 12:00, in the southwest of the country, the weather will become unstable. There will be a Code Yellow for showers, thunderstorms and short-lived wind gusts of 55 - 65 km/h. There will be thunderstorms and isolated hail. In short intervals or with accumulation, the rainfall will be 25 - 30 l/sq.m. and, isolatedly, over 40 l/sq.m.

"After midday and during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, atmospheric instability will be particularly noticeable in the western half of the country," warn meteorologists.

The counties warned are Mehedinti, Gorj, Hunedoara, Caras-Severin, Timis, Arad.
