Daniel Baluta, Mayor of Bucharest's District 4 and the Social Democratic Party (PSD)'s candidate in the 7 December partial election for the Capital's City Hall, submitted his candidacy file to the Municipal Electoral Bureau on Saturday.

He stated that, as general mayor, his priorities would focus on projects aimed at improving quality of life and reducing daily living costs for Bucharest residents, agerpres reports.

Daniel Baluta was accompanied at the Bureau by PSD secretary general Claudiu Manda, and several other Social Democrat leaders, including Florin Manole, Diana Tusa, Rares Hopinca, Robert Cazanciuc and Mihai Ghigiu.

"I would like to thank all Bucharest residents who placed their trust in me and signed to support my candidacy, but I also want to thank those who did not sign. The things I heard and saw in dialogue with them will, I am sure, help me greatly going forward. (...) I am confident thanks to the extraordinary energy I feel; I am confident that in this election people will vote for results. People will judge the political impact on this city over the last 35 years and what those results mean. Because the communities we have looked after to ensure a better life, the investments we have made in infrastructure, hospitals, schools, high schools, nurseries, the fire station, emergency units - all of these are realities, not just words," Baluta said.

He stressed that results are what ultimately matter in life.

"I very much want us to move past political battles and focus on results. Results are what ultimately count, and I am convinced that the experience I have gained as mayor of District 4 will help us all to have a city where daily living costs are lower and quality of life is higher. Because yes, I am running for the people; I am running for these two major objectives - reducing the cost of daily life and improving the quality of life for Bucharest residents," Baluta added.

He also urged all Bucharest residents to turn out to vote on 7 December.

"Only together can we achieve these goals; we need each and every one of you. This is essential if, by 2032, this city is to look fundamentally different," he said.

The PSD's National Political Council validated Daniel Baluta's candidacy for Bucharest general mayor on 28 October.
