Former head of the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) Daniel Horodniceanu has applied for the position of Romania's attorney general.
Horodniceanu told AGERPRES that he had sent the documents by mail to the Ministry of Justice.
He ran for a second term at the helm of DIICOT, but his bid was denied by Justice Minister Tudorel Toader. At the same time, Horodniceanu is also a candidate for the position of European prosecutor on behalf of Romania.
Also Thursday, head of the Attorney General's Office Gabriela Scutea, a deputy of of Laura Codruta Kovesi at the time the latter was attorney general, filed her bid.
Also running in the race for attorney general are former holder Augustin Lazar and Marian Drilea, a DIICOT prosecutor.
Thursday was the last day for the submission of bids.
The candidates are expected to be interviewed by the justice minister on April 3 and 4. The selection results will be announced publicly on April 5.
