Director-General of the Structural Reform Support Service Maarten Verwey stated on Tuesday that it's essential for Romania to continue the reform process and accelerate it.
Maarten Verwey, who participated in the debate called "European Semester 2018: Specific country recommendations and national response measures," organised at the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) said that reforms are very important for the Union, but also for Romania and he believes that it's essential that Romania continue this reform process and accelerate it because only then our country will be able to catch up with others and understand that its people want this thing. (...) He went on saying that the member states cannot do it for Romania, they can only help our country and offer support.
He mentioned that each member state should continue the reform process in order not to stagnate and decline.
He went on saying that for Romania the need of reform is bigger than the average, because Romania still has to do a lot in order to catch up with the rest of the European Union states in terms of income, social performances, living standards.
According to him what is happening in Romania and in other EU countries is important for the entire Union.
He mentioned that if Romania aspires to move to the Eurozone, than the economic destiny of the member states is to be influenced by it, especially in such situations when reforms are becoming a common matter of public concern. Thus, he added, that prior to taking such step, Romania's economy must be well adjusted so that it be a successful one.
The debate called "European Semester 2018: Country specific recommendations and national response measures" is organised by the MAE, in partnership with the European Institute of Romania.
