More than 140 buildings of central and local public administration, along with cultural, educational and medical institutions and tourist attractions, will be illuminated in red on Wednesday evening to mark European 112 Day and the 22nd anniversary of the operational launch of Romania's 112 emergency system, the Special Telecommunications Service (STS) announced.

In a press release, the STS said that, together with public and private institutions across the country, it is marking the occasion by lighting up emblematic buildings in Bucharest and other cities. On the evening of 11 February, over 140 buildings, including the STS communications tower, will be illuminated in red, the symbolic colour of the 112 emergency service.

According to the STS, now in its fifth edition, the initiative has become a tradition, drawing increasing participation each year from institutions and organisations supporting the message of civic responsibility in the use of the single emergency number 112.

The STS also stated that in 2025 Romanian citizens demonstrated the highest level of responsibility in calling 112 since the service was established, contributing to its effective operation and to saving lives through the rapid and efficient alerting of specialist response teams. The institution thanked its partners in Bucharest and across the country for their continued involvement in promoting the responsible use of the emergency number.
