Voter turnout in the referendum to redefine marriage in the Constitution of Romania was 20.96 percent, shows data released by the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) as of 09:00 hrs on Monday.
A total of 3,778,716 people turned out to the polls.
Of the valid ballots, a total of 3,461,581 (91.61 percent) had the 'Yes' option checked, while 242,671 people voted 'No' and the number of voided ballots was 74,414.
The results from 18,724 stations (98.3 percent) of the total 19,040 polling stations had been centralized by 9:00 hrs on Monday.
As many as 18,028,142 enfranchised Romanians were on the Electoral Roll for the referendum to revise the Constitution.
According to Law No. 3/2000, the national referendum would have required a turnout of at least 30 percent to pass.
