Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban on Saturday stated in Timisoara that he will go to vote, for the referendum is the most profound form of democracy and the costs shouldn't be an issue when three million citizens initiated the procedure of revising the Constitution and the Parliament adopted it.
"This is not about the costs. When you have three million citizens who initiated the procedure of revising the Constitution and their initiative was adopted by the Parliament, according to the Constitution, you need a referendum. This is not about the costs, but about the democratic procedures provided by the Romanian Constitution, which are normal and natural in a democracy", Ludovic Orban said.
The liberal leader specified that he will vote on Sunday in his hometown and that he did not politically involve the party he leads in the matter of the referendum, for he does not want to try to gain political capital from this.
He pointed out that first of all he respects democracy and especially the citizens' rights of deciding in important matters for the Romanian society, but, unlike other political leaders, he refused to involve PNL in this vote.
"Unlike other political leaders, I refused to politically position the party, to involve it in this referendum. The problem is one that has to do with one's conscience and personal beliefs and my opinion is that no political party should try to use this referendum in its own political or electoral interest", the PNL leader added.
Ludovic Orban and the chairmen of PNL's branches in the Western region of the country, namely in Arad, Hunedoara, Caras-Severin and Timis, met on Saturday, in Timisoara, to sign a Resolution on the main projects of local, regional or national impact, which will also become part of PNL's governing programme and supported by Liberals when their party will have the government.
