Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan issued a message on the occasion of National Flag Day, stressing that the tricolour is one of the symbols that represents Romanians as a state and as a nation.

"It speaks of our history but also of the responsibility we bear towards today's Romania. Under this flag, the major milestones of modern Romania were achieved, in moments of courage, in difficult times and at times when the country's direction was decided through the sacrifice and sense of responsibility of entire generations," the Prime Minister is quoted as saying in a press release issued by the Government Press Office.

Respect for the flag means "respect for Romania" and this must be reflected in the way institutions operate, in respect for citizens, in sound decision-making and in the responsible management of public money, Ilie Bolojan said.

"We have many things to put right. But we also have the resources and capable people. Romania can move forward if we succeed in building greater trust, greater stability and a state that works better for its citizens. Today, let us honour with respect one of Romania's most important symbols," Bolojan added.
