Force of Right: Refusal to update pensions by 100% of inflation rate, equivalent to cut in pensions

The Force of the Right Party criticizes the ruling coalition's decision to apply an increase in the pension point lower than the inflation rate of the last 12 months and informs that the MPs of the party have initiated a draft law proposing to update pensions by some 18% as of January 1, 2023, the party informs in a release sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.

"This decision, by which pensioners are denied the right to get back the purchasing power lost in the last year, represents in reality a cut in pensions applied in a cynical and unfair way. With the same money, our parents and grandparents will be able to buy significantly fewer things than a year ago, their purchasing power being drastically reduced. Parliamentarians from the Force of the Right support the increase in the pension point, from January 1, 2023, by approximately 18%. This implies updating pensions by 100% of the inflation rate of the last 12 months, but also the application of a percentage of 58.5% of the real increase in the gross average salary. The bill initiated by the parliamentarians of the Force of the Right is currently being debated in the Parliament," says the release.

According to the Force of the Right, "the discrimination applied among pensioners, through voucher-type payments, which the Social Democratic Party (PSD) - National Liberal Party (PNL) Government presents as an increase in pensions, is completely unjustified".

"It is clearly a disgrace and a way of making differences between pensioners based on arbitrary criteria, which have no connection with what can be considered to be the right to a pension. This type of benefits should have been capitalized on by an additional increase in the pension point, and if this is not possible due to the funding source, then it was necessary to apply a single amount of the support granted", the press release states.

The president of the PNL, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, announced on Monday evening that in the Coalition meeting it was decided to increase the pension point by 12.5% starting next year and to grant support for pensioners with pensions of up to 3,000 lei in two installments.
