A total of 930 asylum applications have been filed since the beginning of this year, the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) reports on Thursday.
"During the period January 1 - September 30, 930 asylum applications were recorded, 1,124 fewer than in the same period last year, when 2,054 such applications were filed and recorded," the IGI said in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.
According to the same source, a significant percentage (72%) of the asylum applications registered during the reference period (670) were filed with the structures of the General Inspectorate for Immigration, while 27.6% (257) were filed with the structures of the border police. The difference of 0.3% (3) was filed with other relevant structures.
Regarding the applications submitted to the IGI structures, most were registered at the Regional Centre for Procedures and Accommodation for Asylum Seekers in Bucharest, their number (348) representing 51.9% of the total applications submitted to the IGI structures and 37.4% of the number of applications submitted at the national level.
During the reference period, most asylum applications were registered for citizens from Syria - 235, Iraq - 97 and Sudan - 75.
