Georgiana Lirca secures Romania's first medal at Under-20 World Wrestling Championships
Georgiana Carla Lirca secured Romania's first medal at the Under-20 World Wrestling Championships in Amman (Jordan) on Wednesday by qualifying for the final of the 55 kg category, told Agerpres.
Lirca defeated Felicitas Domajeva (Norway) in the round of 16, in the quarterfinals she beat Roza Szenttamasi (Hungary), in the semifinals she won against Moe Kiyooka (Japan) and in Thursday's final she will face Arina Martinova (Belarus).
In the 50 kg category, Georgiana Lavinia Antuca defeated Mariana Raimary Rojas Diaz (Venezuela) in the preliminaries, but lost in the round of 16 to Svenja Jungo (Switzerland).
Also in men's freestyle wrestling, Romanian Benjamin Zalan Boejthe lost in the 61 kg category qualifying round against Abdinur Nurlanbek from Kazakhstan.
In the women's competition, Romania will have two more representatives, Ana Maria Gianina Rotaru (53 kg category) and Maria Magdalena Pantiru (65 kg category).
