The Social Democratic Party is ready to build an alternative to the austerity seen so far, Social Democratic leader Sorin Grindeanu stated on Wednesday, expressing hope that President Nicusor Dan would quickly convene consultations with the parliamentary parties.
"Unfortunately, Romania has lost another 10 days due to the egos of PNL and USR leaders. They knew from the very beginning that they could not form a majority, yet they persisted with this entire sorry spectacle. I believe the time has come for us all to sit down together and find a solution before it is too late for Romania's economy. All eyes are on us; winter is approaching, and we have a budget revision to carry out and a budget to prepare for 2027. Romanians are fed up with slogans and expect us to change the country's wrong course. I hope the President will quickly convene consultations with the parliamentary parties, but I can tell you that the PSD is ready to build an alternative to the austerity measures seen so far," stated Sorin Grindeanu after the Siegfried Muresan government was rejected by Parliament.
He emphasized that he wants all political forces to support a program that would relaunch the economy and restore confidence and hope.
The Siegfried Muresan government was not invested by the joint session of Parliament on Wednesday. Out of a total of 464 lawmakers, 321 were present at Wednesday's session, and 197 valid votes were cast. There were 182 votes in favor of the investiture with 233 required and 15 votes against.
