Minister of Health Alexandru Rafila talked, on Friday, in his speech delivered at the Aspen Healthcare Summit, about the need for prevention in the context of the National Cancer Control Programme, told Agerpres.
The Health Minister explained that this programme has been recently passed by Parliament as a law and "it should provide, within reasonable time, the access to modern investigation and therapeutical resources, the cancer being obviously a public health problem."
"It is clear that this integrative approach was needed and it is a very good thing. You should know that I don't fear we don't succeed in a reasonable time to put in motion the mechanism to make the access to diagnostics and treatment possible. I believe I am less optimistic not in terms of the end result, but in terms of the duration regarding the prevention programmes, because here, we're not talking about administrative decisions, but a shift of mentality which should address both to general population and professionals in the healthcare area," Alexandru Rafila showed.
He talked about the balance between prevention and treatment.
"This change of mentality, to change the balance from the treatment area to the area of prevention, is sometimes difficult to achieve and I think that we all have to work on this," the Health Minister said.
