In the first three months of this year, Romanian insurance companies paid out over 41 million lei in claims for homes affected by various risks and unforeseen events, up 18% compared to the same period last year, the National Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies in Romania (UNSAR) announced on Wednesday.

Of this amount, over 39 million lei was paid under optional home insurance, registering a 20% increase compared to the first quarter of 2024. This development underlines the fact that more and more Romanians are becoming aware of the risks to which their homes are exposed and choose to protect their investment through an optional policy, agerpres reports.

According to a press release from UNSAR for AGERPRES, Romania is increasingly faced with extreme natural phenomena, but also with numerous household risks that can completely affect a home. Each day last year, on average, 100 claim files were paid under home insurance. Of these, approximately 50 files per day concerned damage caused by damage to interior installations, and 21 files for covering damage caused by storms.

Established in 1994, UNSAR - the National Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Romania represents 21 companies in the field. They hold a share of over 90% of the local insurance market. Since 2007, UNSAR has been a full member of the Federation of European Insurers and Reinsurers - Insurance Europe. Insurance represents a key sector of the Romanian economy, contributing to its development. Insurers in Romania pay out 5.2 million euros in claims each calendar day.
