President Klaus Iohannis said on Tuesday that the motion of no-confidence tabled by the opposition Social Democratic Party (PSD) will not survive a vote of Parliament.

"I speak frequently with all politicians and I don't think the motion of no-confidence will succeed or the rumours that some who should not vote will vote. I do not believe it," he said.

He added that he is optimistic about the unity of the ruling coalition.

"We have a coalition that has fully understood that their chance is unity and now they have a very good opportunity to prove that unity. I am optimistic," Iohannis added.

On Tuesday, President Klaus Iohannis had a meeting at the Athenee Palace Hotel with the ambassadors of the member states of the European Union accredited in Bucharest.

The Chamber of Deputies and the Senate were scheduled on Tuesday to debate and vote on a motion of no-confidence tabled by PSD and called "Failed Romania: the 'fabulous' record of the Citu government."
